Once we have finished mentally projecting our digital self (which, in my case, is what I would look like if I lived in the gym for the past ten years and ate a bucket of steroids every morning) we can get on with the game. An Assasin, who specialises in using poison and traps rather than full on confrontation, and finally a Blade Dancer, which is a very fast swordsman that leaps and twirls about.Īfter this, we get to tinker around with our character’s appearance in minute detail. A Kung Fu Master, who is a hand-to-hand martial arts expert. A Force Master, which is a kind of druid or wizard capable of using elemental powers to fight with (fire, ice etc). A Summoner, who can summon a little animal (that looks too cute to be dangerous) to do their fighting for them. A Destroyer, who wields a huge melee weapon and looks mean as hell. Next, we choose a class (some of which are only available for certain races): A BladeMaster, which is a kind of general swordsman. Blade & Soul races: Supplying enough cosplay ideas for the next twenty years! The Lyn are descended from legendary animals and look like little humans but with big fox ears and tails, and finally the Yun are a female only race (not sure how that works) that are entwined with nature think elven queens. The Jin are basically normal humans except better looking and ripped. We go straight into character development after starting the game and already there are a ton of options to choose from.įirst things first, we can choose one of four races for our character: the Gon are huge muscle bound men and women that are descended from dragon breath and look like they could flick you across the room with one finger. So, I fire up the game and straight away I’m impressed by the opening screen, which is accompanied by some nice dramatic music. The real stand out feature of this game is the slick style and immersive cinematic storyline that draws you into this fantastical world of East Asian martial arts and mythology. The game begins as a standalone experience but you will soon have the option of competing against and working with lots of other online players. The game has all the usual RPG features but with an excellent action based combat system, which expands as your player develops and could easily rival a number of fighting style games. Originally released on the 30 th of June 2012 in South Korea, following a beta test with a record 150,000 players and with a reasonable estimate for active players surpassing 20 million, this game already has a phenomenal fan base and expectations have been running very high. Blade & Soul is the epic new MMORPG from NCSOFT (Team Bloodlust), which released in Europe and North America on the 19 th of January 2016.
